The Missile Tower Wreck (165′), San Diego

A stone’s throw from the Hogan wreck, near the US/Mexico border, rests the Missile Tower wreck. Part of the California Fish and Game Artificial Reef Program, the tower was sunk in 1993 in about 165 feet of water.

The floating tower was formerly used by the US Navy to test launch Trident submarine missiles. It’s pretty small, about 60′ high and 25′ square on the sides, with a catwalk circling the perimeter. It rests on its side and, like many of the deeper dive sites around here, is covered in Metridium anemones.

In the center is a large tube about 10′ in diameter.
